SEMINARIANS ON MISSION
EPISODE TWO (3)
By: Rec Godwinmario the last born of the BVM
(Andrew Approaches the Superior the second time)
ANDREW: Fada, you really have to listen to me, at least for the fact that I never complained nor disobeyed. Moreover, the parish you sent me has a lot of luxury a seminarian would want, but why are mine insisting on this mission, please consider me.
SUPERIOR: You are not going to that place and that's final. Common, do you recognize that you are the only child of your parents? Why are you insisting on this suicide mission?
ANDREW: I am restless fr, I am burning for this mission and I will be restless until it's accomplished.
SUPERIOR: Then prepare to go home, first thing tomorrow morning. Leave my presence.
Hmmm, really! What should I do now? Why is he not understanding me? I think I should discuss it with my spiritual director. (He headed straight to Fada Tom who was also his formator)
ANDREW: So Fada that's my challenge, I really need your advice.
FADA TOM: Andrew, you should have sought my advice first before approaching your superior. Your superior is right, even if you don't value your life, look around you and see the people who need you.
ANDREW: When I look around, the only people I see dearly in need of me are the people of Tarswen, I hope you understand me fada.
FADA TOM: Well, I know you Andrew you won't give up even if I advise you. However, since the Bishop told Vitalise that he will pray about it, I will write a letter to him expressing your experiences. If you can convince him then it is fine.
ANDREW: Okay, thank you very much fada, I will be grateful.
In a few days, fada Tom gave Andrew the letter as promised. Andrew tried his best and with the help of some priests, he was able to convince the bishop. The Bishop wrote to the superior and it was all agreed. All the necessary preparations were made for the both seminarians to travel to Tarswen.
Andrew's mother who understood the mission called Andrew in.
MOM: Andrew, you are all that I have since your father died, why do you choose to embark on this dangerous trip that even priests could not make?
ANDREW: Mama, the moment you approved my vocation you accepted to be alone in this world, you became that Mary that gave Jesus Christ to the world, that very day mama you embraced the vocation of our Mother Mary and that is why I love you, mama, you are the best.
MOM: You are all that I have in this world, you are the reason why I am still alive my baby, please I don't want to lose you. Six priests have already died.
ANDREW: Mama, Tarswen is not a death sentence, nobody is going to die and your son is going to make you and the mother Church proud. You should be happy mama that your son is going to do what others can not do. My friend and I are going to make it back alive.
MOM: How so? They didn't spare even priests. What makes you think you will come home safe?
ANDREW: Mama, I was born to do this. Okay fine, no priest has ever made it up to a month there but I will be sending letters to you every month for three consecutive months.
MOM: And what happens to the next?
ANDREW: Smiles… I will be back home.
Mama cried as though she lost someone, however, was consoled by Andrew's three months promise.
It was a sad moment for the family of Vitalise and the entire family of Servants of Charity congregation yet they all accepted it with the confidence that they were going to succeed.
Andrew and Vitalise are in the Chapel to pray a day before their trip.
ANDREW: Lord in heaven, we say thank you, you have indeed proven that it is your will for us to go on this mission, Lord indeed you were that fire burning in our hearts. We are not afraid of the mission ahead, we have submitted our all to you and if it is your will for us to die for your Church then so be it.
Lord, go before us tomorrow to level the mountains and give the people of Tarswen the heart of flesh so that your words may pierce through them. Mary our dear Mother be with us, we ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
