St John Paul 11

➡ First photo of John Paul II during the Easter Vigil at St. Peter's Square on April 21, 1984 was posted yesterday by Joshua Clemente in the group Catholic Clerical Dress, Vestments and Vesture by Liturgical Arts Journal.

✅ The photo with John Paul II is interesting because it is probably the only one found so far that would show this papal protective veil for the post-Vatican II pontificates. We publish photos of previous Popes using this protective veil. It was used by Popes during processions with candles and its purpose was to protect the Pope's hands from dripping wax.

✅ It is worth noting that John Paul II is holding the candle with the vestment incorrectly and in his right hand, not his left.

👉 If you have other photos of this parament or have more detailed information, feel free to contact us, we will publish them, of course, indicating the person from whom the information came.
