CAN ONE SINNER JUDGE ANOTHER ON SIN ?

A monk in an old monastery committed a fault.  A counsel was convened and the old Abbot was called to preside, but he refused to go.  Then the priest at the counsel sent a monk to get the old Abbot.

The monk said, "Come, for everyone is waiting for you".

So the old Abbot got up and went.  On the way, he took a sack, filled it with sand and cut a small hole at the bottom and carried it on his shoulders.
The other members of the counsel came out to meet him and said, "What is this, father?"

The old Abbot said, "My sins run out behind me, and I do not see them, and today I am coming to judge the errors of another"

When they heard that, they said no more to the brother but forgave him.
